Courtesy Notice (Notice of Bail)

The Court will mail a Notice of Bail to the address on the citation. You will usually get this notice within 30 days of your citation. The notice contains information about the requirements and options available for your case, like:

  • The amount of the bail (fine) and the payment due date
  • Proof of correction for compliance violations
  • Traffic school information

If you have not received a Notice of Bail, contact the Court. If you are not sure about your options, call the Court at (650) 363-4300 Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

If you have not received a Notice of Bail:
  • The officer who cited you may still have the citation.
  • Your latest address information may not have been updated with the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • You may not have shown the officer your change of address card along with your driver's license.
  • The address written on the citation may be incorrect or incomplete.
  • The citation may have been sent back to the citing officer for correction.
  • There may have been a postal error.

You must take action by the date stated in the Notice to Appear even if you have not received a Notice of Bail. By signing the citation in front of the officer, you agreed to respond to the citation instead of being arrested.

If you do not resolve a citation on or before the due date, OR if you do not appear at a scheduled court hearing, the Court may:
  • Charge a $100 Civil Assessment in addition to the traffic fine.
  • Notify the DMV of your failure to appear.
