San Mateo County Superior Court Launches New Court Reporter Internship Program

Redwood City, Calif - The San Mateo County Superior Court is pleased to announce the launch of its new Court Reporter Internship Program, designed to provide valuable hands-on experience to qualified candidates pursuing a career in court reporting. This paid internship offers a unique opportunity to work directly within the courtroom environment, shadow experienced court reporters, and gain exposure to a variety of court proceedings.

Court reporters play a vital role in the justice system, responsible for preparing verbatim transcripts of legal proceedings that serve as the official record. Using stenographic or voice writing equipment, court reporters accurately transcribe everything said by judges, attorneys, parties, and witnesses during court proceedings.

The Court is now accepting applications for eight-week, in-person internship programs. Interns will report to the Court Reporter Supervisor and will be assigned to shadow official court reporters across a range of court proceedings and case types, including criminal, juvenile, and family law. As part of the internship, participants are required to produce 10 pages of transcription per week for review, including cover, appearance, and index pages. The program is open to both stenographic and voice writing candidates that meet the eligibility requirements.
