San Mateo County Superior Court Launches Online Fix-It Ticket Correction Program
Redwood City – The San Mateo County Superior Court’s Traffic Division now offers the ability to easily correct “fix-it” tickets completely online. Launched in September, the Court provides a convenient way for people to submit proof of corrections online without having to come into the clerk’s office. Common fix-it tickets include mechanical issues involving headlights or tinted glass, expired registration, and lacking valid insurance. Once proof of corrections are submitted online and approved by a judge, the Court will lower fines to $25 per correctable violation.
The Court offers a host of other helpful online services through the Traffic Division. In 2020, the Court debuted a program to lower traffic citation fines online without the necessity to appear before a judge in court. After a plea of “guilty” or “no contest” is entered online, people can pay the reduced fines and sign up for traffic school if requirements are met. There is no proof of financial hardship required to qualify. However, only individuals with traffic citations not yet heard by a judge are eligible for this program.
Those with proof of financial hardship and not attending traffic school can take advantage of an alternative program to apply for even greater fine reductions using the Judicial Council of California’s MyCitations online request tool. In addition to applying for fine reductions for eligible infractions, people can also request payment plans, more time to pay, or ask to complete community service instead of paying fines and fees. MyCitations can even be used by individuals with cases that are currently in collections.
Many other important functions can be performed online as well. People filing requests fortrial by written declaration, commonly referred to as “trial by mail”, can also apply online, including those looking to convert in-person trials scheduled more than 30 days away. Additional questions can easily be answered with the convenient LiveChat feature. This helpful tool connects users directly with a real Clerk in the Traffic Division, offering the same full service as calling by phone, including the ability to schedule inperson court appearances. The Traffic Division also provides the option to sign up for text reminders for upcoming court hearings and for those enrolled in payment plans.
