Public Service Hours Reduced for Civil, Probate, Family Law, and Records Management Effective October 7

REDWOOD CITY – Public service hours for the Civil, Probate, Family Law, and Records Management divisions will be reduced effective October 7, 2024 as the San Mateo County Superior Court continues to adapt to the impacts of state budget cuts.

Public service hours in Room A at the Hall of Justice Courthouse for the Civil, Probate, Family Law, and Records Management divisions will be cut back to 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday – Friday beginning October 7. Only Civil Ex Parte payments, Presiding Judge Ex Parte filings, Civil and Presiding Judge Out of Court Ex Parte orders, and Out of Court orders will be accepted in Room A after 1:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.  Instructions to contact the appropriate clerk’s office staff for ex parte matters will be displayed after the doors to Room A close at 1:00 p.m. Phone service hours for the Civil, Probate, Family Law, and Records Management divisions will remain 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, which became effective August 5.

The nearly $4 million in revenue shortfalls due to state budget cuts, including the approximately $1.45 million in on-going funding reductions allocated to the San Mateo County Superior Court, have necessitated a continued hiring freeze impacting all court divisions. The Court remains committed to serving all court users while operating with a reduced workforce. Updates will be communicated to the public as they become available on the Court’s website: sanmateo.courts.ca.gov.
