Jury Duty Scams Targeting San Mateo County Residents

Redwood City, Calif - The San Mateo County Superior Court has been alerted to an increase in scams targeting members of the community for failing to appear for jury duty.

The Court is aware of incidents involving scammers posing as law enforcement officials or court employees contacting residents via phone, text, email, and mail demanding payment to clear false warrants and fines for failing to appear for jury service.

At no time will law enforcement or the Court contact jurors to request payment, threaten arrest, or require that they turn themselves in for missing jury service.

The Court is warning residents not to engage with anyone that demands money or personal information related to jury duty.

Individuals targeted by a jury duty scam should report the incident to local law enforcement and notify Juror Services by emailing JuryMaster@sanmateocourt.org.

The Court thanks all San Mateo County residents for staying alert and asks the community to help spread the word to protect family, friends, and neighbors against jury duty scams.
